THE MID-WEEK CHAMPIONS LEAGUE MATCHES.

Tuesday 16/09/08

Chelsea 4-0
(HT 2-0)
Bordeaux
Lampard 14
J Cole 30
Malouda 82
Anelka 90+3

Bookings:
Deco 58

This was routine stuff from Chelsea. They controlled the game from start to finnish and bagged four goals to show it. Frank Lamard got the blues rolling with header after 14 minutes. Joe Cole added a second before half time and Malouda added a third just on 82 minutes. To tub salt in Bordeaux's wounds Anelka finished of a sitter in injury time. However, despite this emphatic win, Scolari was still critical of his team saying how they could of done better, boasting or telling the truth I'll leave it up to you.

Marseille 1-2
(HT 1-2)
Liverpool
Cana 23

Gerrard 26
Gerrard (pen) 32
Bookings:
Zubar 34

Bookings:
Skrtel 21
Lucas 47
Liverpool bagged the 3 points today but did not half have to work for it. 23 minutes into the game Cana beat the Liverpool offside trap to put the home side in front. 3 minutes later however, Gerrard, hailed Liverpool's greatest player ever by manager Benitez, stunned the crowd by hitting a 22 yard curler to level things. When Ryan Babel was brought down 8 minutes later Gerrard slotted the penalty home securing his brace and Liverpool's win.

Wednesday 17/09/08

Dynamo Kiev 1-1
(HT 0-0)
Arsenal
Bangoura (pen) 64
Gallas 88
Bookings:
Nesmachniy 57
Bangoura 71
Vukojevic 82
Diakhate 89
Bookings:
Sagna 63
Well as an Arsenal Fan I am very disappointed with this game, we deserved to win, we dominated from start to finnish but were let down by poor finishing. The first goal came when Sagna was wrongly judged to of fouled in the box and Dynamo Kiev were awarded a penalty. Bangoura stepped up to slot home. We pressed for an equalizer and Gallas saved all Arsenal's blushes when he tapped home from 2 yards.

Man Utd 0-0
(HT 0-0)
Villarreal
Bookings:
Tevez 72
Bookings:
Franco 35
Ibagaza 88
Diego Lopez 90+2
A fairly uneventful game at Old Trafford saw both teams take a point from a goalless draw.

I got 1 perfect score with 5 correct results!!!

Blackburn 0 v 4 Arsenal (Van persie, Adebayor x3)

Well I am chuffed that we won by such a great margin, we did deserve to win but in fainess to Blackburn the scorline could of been alot more closer than it turned out to be. Van persie scored the early goal after good work from Walcott , then after a string of missed chances from Blackburn right on the stroke of half time Adebayor scored his first and Arsenal's second. The second half began were the first left off, poor defending by both sides and Blackburn squandering more oppuunities. The game was wrapped up however when Eboue was brought down in the box, Adebayor converted the penalty and put th game to bed. Fittingly for Arsenal on the stroke of full time Adebayor broke the offside trap and went round robinson to complete his hatrick and a great evening for Arsenal.

We didn't defend all that well and better opposition would of finnished their chances. On this showing I think overall we can finnish third but to challenge fot the top two we need to improve our backline. More positevly however, Theo Walcott carried on his good form playing a great part in the opening goal, Adebayor did well finnishing all his chances and denilson was solid in DM today and not bad going foward either. Lastly Ramsey and jack wiltshire came on and looked promising, players for the future!!

Liverpool 2( Wes brown (og), Babbel) v 1 Man Utd (Tevez)

The first encouter between two teams from the big four saw Manchester united travel to Liverpool. Both clubs gave starts to their additions from the transfer market. Man Utd started well bagging the goal, with Berbatov plaing a big part. Livepool however fought back well forcing saves from Van der sar, before a mix up in the Man Utd defence lead to an own goal by Wes Brown. Liverpool carried on pressing and got their reward with Kuyt teeing up Babbel to bag the secong after good work from Riera. So all in all Liverpool were good value for their win and showed they can still cahllenge for the top two spots. Man Utd on the other hand need to get their act together before they get left too far behind, luckily for them rumour has it that one MR. Ronaldo is due back against villareal in mid-week.

Man City 1 (Robinho) v 3 Chelsea (Anelka, Lampard, Carvalho)

The clash of the cash as it was nick named lived up t all of it's pre match hype. It was a quite opening few minutes until the 13th when the £32.5m man, Robinho scored a majestic free kick for the new billionaires on the block, against the side that chased his autograph all summer long only to be denied at the elevnth hour. Despite this however chelsea came back stronger and within 3 minutes were level through Carvalho. Chelsea then dominated the game adding goal numbers two and three through lampard and anelka repectively. The final score finnished 3-1 to the visitor's and so far the most likely team to steal Man Utd crown.

THEO's trio!!!!!!!!!!!!!! England vs croatia post match views

If you read my previous post (that I wrote BEFORE the England vs Croatia match) I clearly stated that in my opinion that Capello was the man to take England to glory. On Wednesday's performance I believe that we can win any trophy we put our minds on ( well I've got to optimistic haven't I).

However, I will put my hands up and say that contrary to my last post where I said that Capello could only win ugly, in Zagreb the other night England played brilliantly, none more so than that new English hero Walcott. It did not surprise me that Capello chose to leave Beckham out, he is well passed his peak, but the inclusion of Walcott in the starting lineup was very extra-ordianry, the type of risk that great managers take.

Although, the rest of the line up were the usual England 'superstars' and Heskey, for the first time since the hammering of Germany back in 2001 an England team gelled together perfectly and excelled on all areas of the pitch, produce a stunning display.

And what a display it was to, we were defending from the front and attacking from the back and most importantly finishing off our opportunities. Although the red card to Kovac on 53 minutes was a vital turning point in the game I believe that from start to finnish our boys dominated the Croats in their own backyard.

Now all England need to do is perform well against Croatia at wembly and Fabio's men are home and dry and as for Walcott, all i can say is that Arsenal don't need no more Englishmen if we have one as good as that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ENGLAND Under Capello

ENGLAND Under Capello

This is my first blog on this site and you are going to get accustomed to it anyway so let say it right out I am a huge Arsenal Fan. Being a Gooner means that we have hardly any Englishmen in our starting XI. However, having said this I am a through and through england fan.

Ever since Eriksson got the boot, amid all the 'we need an English manager' from the press and fans, I was adamant that no English manager was up to the standard quite yet and consequently Mclaren proved this.
So after a summer of watching Spain win Europe's elite international trophy I am ready to cheer England on in the World cup qualifiers and hopefully (with a little luck) World cup finals under the new England manager Fabio Capello.

Well, since his arrival in December 2007, Capello has not had any great challenges with England as a manger. The friendlies they've played have all been dire with team never performing up to expectations. The Andorra match last week followed in the same suit, we won but only just, to a team ranked 135 places below us in the FIFA world rankings.
However having said this Capello is proven to win by nay means necessary, this means he will win us games even if we don't play the best football in the world. This also ties in with another great factor that Capello has- the ability to Discipline his team. News paper headlines have lead us to believe that he has a strict training regime and the match against Andorra proved that he is not afraid to yell at his players (Joe Cole and Rooney can vouch for this).

Coming into the role, Capello had an illustrious managerial CV, winning nine league titles and European cup with some of Europe's biggest clubs. So he was well qualified for the job, but does he have that extra something that it will take to shape up our squad of individual superstars into an effective successful team? The simple answer in my opinion is yes. However whether we want to see our team winning ugly or playing great free flowing football is a different matter all together.
